NAWC Announces Partnership with the Water for People DC Committee
The National Association of Water Companies is pleased to announce that it has partnered with the Water For People DC Committee to present the 2011 “Women in Water Gala” to benefit Water for People. The Gala will take place in Washington, D.C., on June 13, 2011, and will bring together members of the water industry and the Washington, D.C., decision-making, policy, philanthropic and business communities.

EPA to Develop Regulation for Perchlorate and Toxic Chemicals in Drinking Water
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently announced a decision to move forward with the development of a regulation for perchlorate that's designed to protect Americans from any potential health impacts, while also continuing to take steps to ensure the quality of the water they drink. The decision to implement a first-ever national standard for perchlorate reverses a decision made by the previous administration and comes after EPA administrator Lisa P. Jackson ordered EPA scientists to undertake a thorough review of the emerging science of perchlorate.

NARUC’s Committee on Water Gains New Members
National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners President Tony Clark recently appointed New Mexico Public Regulation Commission Chairman Pat Lyons to the NARUC Committee on Water. Lyons is a third-generation resident of New Mexico, and the owner and operator of Lyons Angus Ranch. In addition to serving as Chairman of the Public Regulation Commission, Lyons is an active managing rancher and farmer in New Mexico, with a continuous cow and calf operation.

SouthWest Water Company Recognized for Exemplary Contract Operations in California
SouthWest Water Company announced that in 2010 it was recognized with five awards from two local sections of the California Water Environment Association (CWEA): two Plant of the Year Awards, a Safety Agency of the Year Award, a Supervisor of the Year Award, and an Inspirational Operator of the Year Award.
