International Body Works to Develop Standard to Measure Water Use ‘Footprint'
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is considering a proposed global norm that would allow companies to determine their use of freshwater, or water “footprint,” for environmental reporting purposes.

EPA Proposes Revision to Total Coliform Rule
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to revise a national primary drinking water regulation to achieve greater public health protection against waterborne pathogens in the distribution systems of public water systems. Waterborne pathogens can cause a variety of illnesses with symptoms such as acute abdominal discomfort or, in more extreme cases, kidney failure, hepatitis or chronic concerns.

American Water Receives National Awards for Excellence in Water Quality
American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, is proud to announce the receipt of 24 Directors Awards of Recognition from the Partnership for Safe Water. Twenty-three plants received awards for maintaining Phase III certification for 10 years, and one plant was presented with its first Directors Award for Phase III certification.

DHS Announces New Standards for Private Sector Preparedness
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano recently announced the adoption of the final standards for the Voluntary Private Sector Preparedness Accreditation and Certification Program (PS-Prep) — a major milestone in DHS' implementation of a program recommended by the 9/11 Commission to improve private sector preparedness for disasters and emergencies.
