Help for Our Neighbors in Haiti
The devastating earthquake in Haiti is appropriately at the top of everyone’s mind. The recovery efforts are underway but the complex road ahead is a stark reminder of how fragile the world is. We are able only to react to what Mother Nature throws at us, but the measure of this reaction is more than noteworthy.

EPA’s WaterSense Announces Winner of 2010 ‘Fix a Leak Week’ Media Event Competition
Launched in 2006, EPA’s WaterSense partnership program plays an important role in promoting water efficiency and enhancing the market for water-efficient products, programs and practices. This year, WaterSense began promoting “Fix a Leak Week,” which will take place March 15–21, 2010, by issuing a call for nominations for the WaterSense 2010 Fix a Leak Week Media Event Competition.

Aqua America Launches Georgia Subsidiary with New Wastewater Acquisition
Aqua America Inc. announced that it has acquired a wastewater treatment, disposal and re-use system in Lumpkin County, Ga. The acquisition will launch Aqua’s new operating subsidiary, Aqua Georgia Inc., in the midst of one of the nation’s highest-growth corridors, within an hour’s drive north of Atlanta along Georgia’s Route 400.

NRDC’s Nancy Stoner Headed Back to EPA
Nancy Stoner, currently with the Natural Resources Defense Council, is returning to EPA’s Office of Water. Though no formal announcement has been made, Stoner will reportedly be political deputy to Pete Silva, assistant administrator for water. She currently co-directs NRDCs water program and is expected to start her new position at the beginning of February.

NARUC Water Committee Gains New Members
North Carolina Commissioner Bryan Beatty and Florida Commissioner David Klement are the newest members of the NARUC Water Committee.
Commissioner Beatty was appointed to the North Carolina Utilities Commission by Gov. Mike Easley for a term that commenced on Jan. 7, 2009, and expired on June 30, 2009. Gov. Beverly Perdue reappointed him for the term that commenced on July 1, 2009, and ends on June 30, 2017.
