NARUC Water Committee Gains New KY Commissioner
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear appointed Charles R. Borders as a member of the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) on July 15, 2009. His term expires June 30, 2013. Commissioner Borders has also joined the NARUC Water Committee.

Will Fall Congressional Agenda Include Water Issues?
Congress returned from its summer recess to an agenda dominated – for now – by health-care reform and appropriations. While the regular appropriations process will no doubt continue, less clear is the fate of the broad health-care reform the Administration and Democrats are championing. The fate and timetable of that debate could affect issues of particular interest to the water industry.

Clinton, Miss. Wastewater Treatment Facility Named Water Environment Association Plant of the Year
Southside wastewater treatment plant, of Clinton, Miss., has been awarded the 2008 Class 4 Plant of the Year Award from the Mississippi Water Environment Association. The city’s 3.5 million-gallons-per-day treatment plant serves 18,000 residents and is operated and maintained by Severn Trent Services under a public-private partnership that began in 1994.

Water Sector to Launch Second Round of Security Metrics Initiative
The Water Sector is poised to become the first critical infrastructure group to launch a second round of sector-specific security metrics later this month. Last year’s responses indicated that drinking water and wastewater utilities had made significant progress in many areas of security. To measure additional progress and gain an even better understanding of the sector’s overall security posture, the metrics collection effort is being conducted again.
