New England Chapter
About Our Chapter
The New England Chapter of the NAWC is somewhat unique in that it represents multiple states within New England with different regulatory structures and programs. While this could be seen as a challenge, we see it as an opportunity to benefit from members' experiences and perspectives in those states.
Our membership features companies that vary in size. Some are single state operations while others are part of larger multi-state organizations. Two member companies serve over 150,000 customers each while a number of the smaller local companies serve less than 10,000 customers. Some are publicly traded, others are small and closely-held, and others owned by large international interests.
We focus on regulatory and ratemaking issues facing our members and seeks to inform through regular conferences and chapter meetings. We bring together issues and initiatives within the New England states as well as perspectives on regulatory practices, utility issues and trends from across the country. We believe our programs are our strength, providing valuable educational opportunities for our members as well as regulators, consumer advocates and staff.
The New England Chapter holds two large conferences each year in the spring and fall that are attended on average by 100-120 individual members. Panel discussions as well as formal presentations involve both member company personnel as well as key regulators and other stakeholders and constituents. We strive to include regulators, consumer advocates and staff on the panels and in attendance so they may benefit from the information as well. The wide array of topics attracts interest among a variety of attendees with interests ranging from regulatory affairs and public relations to accounting and finance.
