Government Relations
NAWC maintains an aggressive Government Relations Program to assure that the concerns of the Private Water Service Industry and their customers are before Congress, the Administration, and key decision-makers.
Our Government Relations program is overseen by NAWC’s Board of Directors and Government Relations Committee.
Recent successes include:
- Avoidance of “double regulation” under new chemical security authority
- The defeat of the MTBE “Safe Harbor” in the 2005 Energy Bill
- The exclusion of utilities from onerous “Hours of Service” regulations in the 2005 Transportation Bill
- The continued Congressional support of the State Revolving Loan Funds, and the rejection of wasteful and unnecessary new grant programs and trust funds
- Passage of Clinton Administration tax regulations allowing for long-term management contracts
- The Repeal of the tax on Contributions in Aid of Construction in 1996
- The reauthorization of the Safe Drinking Water Act in 1996 with broad bi-partisan support
